You do not need to be a registered user to explore or view photos and related content on http://www.polarrose.com. However, in order to contribute content of your own you must first become a registered user.
Polar Rose collects personal information when you register for use of the Polar Rose Service or contribute information to photos on the Service.
- You register through Facebook Connect, which gives Polar Rose access to your full name, Facebook profile photo, your Facebook friends and other personal data.
- You can optionally enter information such as email addresses and a personalized background. Polar Rose records information on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, photos you browse, web cookies, and the pages on http://www.polarrose.com that you request.
- Polar Rose uses that information for the following general purposes: products and services provision, identification and authentication, services improvement, contact, research, and reporting.
- We may send you certain communications relating to the Polar Rose Service, such as service announcements and administrative messages related to your use of the Service.
IP Addresses
IP Addresses are automatically reported by your browser each time you view a web page on http://www.polarrose.com. Your IP address is stored in our log files.
IP addresses may be used for various purposes, including:
- To diagnose or service technology problems reported by our users or engineers that are associated with the IP addresses controlled by a specific web company or ISP.
- To tailor advertising based on geographic area or other information derived from your IP address. Aggregate anonymized information derived from IP addresses may also be reported to advertisers.
- To estimate the total number of users visiting Polar Rose from specific geographical regions.
Photos
When you allow Polar Rose to access your photos on Flickr or other similar photosharing site, thumbnails of and links to these photos will be stored by the Service. These thumbnails and links, as well as any names added to these photos, using the Service (collectively “the Content”), will be shared with your Facebook friends, anyone who follows you on the Service and everyone whose name is added to a specific photo. Any public names you add to these photos using the Service will be visible on Flickr as well.
Polar Rose does not make available the original photos on Flickr, other than by linking to that photo’s page in question on Flickr. Flickr’s regular security and access restriction mechanisms therefore fully apply when viewing the original photo on Flickr. However, it is possible for thumbnails of and links to Flickr photos to be shared with people using Polar Rose that have no access to the original photo on Flickr.
Should you wish to limit who your name and your photos are shared with, set your account to be “private”. You will still share each specific photo with the people named in the photo, but sharing with other people is limited only to your Facebook friends and those people that you have agreed can follow you.
Followers
Users on Polar Rose can opt to “follow” other users, which means that they will see all photos added to the Service by that user, as well as any photos to which the name of that user has been added.
With a public Polar Rose account, anyone is allowed to follow your Content. With a private Polar Rose account, only those you give permission are allowed to follow your Content.
In both cases photos are shared with those people who have been named in these photos.
Browser cookies
A browser cookie is an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a web site's servers and stored on your computer's hard drive. Polar Rose uses web cookies for the following purposes at http://www.polarrose.com:
- a cookie for auto login that is set after logging in to http://www.polarrose.com via Facebook Connect.
- to persist your browser session once logged into the web site.
About the use of browser cookies:
- You can configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set.
- If you reject all cookies, you will not be able to use Polar Rose Services that require you to “log in”, and you may not be able to take full advantage of the Polar Rose Service.
- Polar Rose may let third-party companies (such as Google) that show advertisements on some of our pages set and access web cookies of their own on your computer. Other entities use of their web cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one, and you control the setting of such web cookies in your browser. Advertisers or other entities at no time have access to Polar Rose cookies set on your computer.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
- When you post Content with a public account, your full name is visible to other users, whether logged in to Polar Rose or not.
- When you are named in a photo and you have a public account, your full name will also be visible to other users, whether logged in to Polar Rose or not.
- When you post Content with a private account, your full name is visible to your followers and anyone who has been named in a specific photo.
- When you are named in a photo and you have a private account, your full name will only be visible to your followers.
- Polar Rose may be required to disclose personally identifiable information under special circumstances, such as to comply with subpoenas or when your actions violate the Polar Rose Terms of Service.
- Polar Rose does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested or when we have your permission.
- It may be necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Polar Rose's Terms of Service, or as otherwise required by law.
- We will transfer account information if Polar Rose is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, Polar Rose will notify you by email or by putting a prominent notice on the Polar Rose Web site before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Editing and Deleting Account Information
- You can edit all information in your Polar Rose Account at any time. Some information might be tied to Facebook and can therefore only be edited from within your Facebook account.
- You can delete your Polar Rose account at any time by sending us an email at ; however, please note that your identification and contact information may remain in Polar Rose's records for some period and that information that the names you have added to photos will remain in Flickr, although they can be removed from there using Flickr’s tools.
- We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you or in order to do their jobs.
- Your Polar Rose Account Information is protected via Facebook Connect. Polar Rose does not store any passwords related to your account as a result of this.
- For certain information Polar Rose uses SSL-encryption to protect data transmissions.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
Polar Rose may update this policy at any time for any reason. If there are any significant changes to how we handle personal information we will send a notice to the email address specified in your Polar Rose account or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
