Polar Rose is an online service which allows you to discover information about people appearing in publicly viewable photos. We welcome you as a user - an explorer - but first ask that you read this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service to avoid any misunderstandings.

You do not need to be a registered user to explore or view photos and related content on www.polarrose.com. However, in order to contribute content of your own and to use the Polar Rose Browser Plugin you must first become a registered user.

What This Privacy Policy Covers

• This privacy policy pertains to the use of www.polarrose.com (the "Web site"), Polar Rose Browser Plugin (the "Plugin"), and Polar Rose API (the "API"), altogether referred to as the Polar Rose Service (the "Service").
• This privacy policy covers how Polar Rose treats personal information that Polar Rose collects and receives from you upon use of the Service. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, or email address.
• Children under 18 are not permitted to use the Polar Rose Service, and so this Privacy Policy makes no provision for children's use of the site.

Information Collection and How it is Used

• Polar Rose collects personal information when you register for use of the Polar Rose Service or contribute information to photos found by Polar Rose.
• When you register we require your full name, email address and a username.
• You can optionally enter information such as personal photo and links to outside third-party services.
• Polar Rose automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser and the Polar Rose Browser Plugin, including your IP address, photos you browse, web cookie, and the page on www.polarrose.com that you request.
• Polar Rose uses information for the following general purposes: products and services provision, identification and authentication, services improvement, contact, research, and reporting.
• We may send you certain communications relating to the Polar Rose Service, such as service announcements and administrative messages related to your use of the Service.

IP Addresses

IP Addresses are automatically reported by your browser each time you view a web page. Your IP address is stored in our log files.

IP addresses may be used for various purposes, including:

• To diagnose or service technology problems reported by our users or engineers that are associated with the IP addresses controlled by a specific web company or ISP.
• To tailor advertising based on geographic area or other information derived from your IP address. Aggregate anonymized information derived from IP addresses may also be reported to advertisers.
• To estimate the total number of users visiting Polar Rose from specific geographical regions.

Photos

When enabled, the Plugin submits photos that appear to have people in them, along with the page on which the photo is found, to Polar Rose. This data only becomes associated with your account if you add a name, comment, or label or mark a photo as a favorite (collectively the "Content"), and you can disable the use of the Plugin at any time.

Browser cookies

A browser cookie is an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a web site's servers and stored on your computer's hard drive. Polar Rose uses web cookies for the following purposes at www.polarrose.com:

• a cookie for auto log-ons that is used if you select "Remember me on this computer" upon login.
• to persist your browser session once logged into the web site.

About the use of web cookies on www.polarrose.com:

• You can configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set.
• If you reject all cookies, you will not be able to use Polar Rose Services that require you to "log in," and you may not be able to take full advantage of the Polar Rose Service.
• Polar Rose may let third-party companies (such as Google) that show advertisements on some of our pages set and access web cookies of their own on your computer. Other entities use of their web cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one, and you control the setting of such web cookies in your browser. Advertisers or other entities at no time have access to Polar Rose cookies set on your computer.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

• When you post Content, the Polar Rose username that you are posting under is visible to other users.
• Polar Rose may be required to disclose personally identifiable information under special circumstances, such as to comply with subpoenas or when your actions violate the Polar Rose Terms of Service.
• Polar Rose does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested or when we have your permission.
• It may be necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Polar Rose's Terms of Service, or as otherwise required by law.
• We will transfer account information if Polar Rose is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, Polar Rose will notify you by email or by putting a prominent notice on the Polar Rose Web site before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
• Polar Rose displays targeted advertisements based on personal information in accordance with the above statures.

Editing and Deleting Account Information

• You can edit all information except username in your Polar Rose Account at any time.
• You can delete your Polar Rose account at any time by sending us an email at ; however, please note that your identification and contact information may remain in Polar Rose's records for some period and that information that you have posted to photos will remain in the Polar Rose database.
• We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you or in order to do their jobs.
• Your Polar Rose Account Information is password-protected.
• For certain information Polar Rose uses SSL-encryption to protect data transmissions.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Polar Rose may update this policy at any time for any reason. If there are any significant changes to how we handle personal information we will send a notice to the email address specified in your Polar Rose account or by placing a prominent notice on our site. It is anticipated that the Privacy Policy will change at the end of the Polar Rose beta period.
